Facility Features, Working Principle and Specifications

Facility Description

Facility Description

Used to study interaction between two molecules.

Features Working Principle

Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) works by measuring the heat change that occurs when two molecules interact. The principle behind ITC is that heat is released or absorbed when non-covalent bond from or break between two molecules. The heat change is measured by the instrument as heat required to maintain same temperature as that of reference cell.

Body Specification
  • MicroCal Calorimeter Solution Package SYS80004 - PEAQ-ITC – Ultrasensitive PEAQ-ITC Microcalorimetery Cell with syringe tower and Control Unit for real-time operation and post-run data analysis.
  • PEAQ-ITC Washing Module with detergent capability for cleaning cell and titration syringe.

Applications

Isothermal titration calorimetry has been used in a wide array of fields. In the old days, this technique was used to determine fundamental thermodynamic values for basic small molecular interactions. In recent years, ITC has been used in more industrially applicable areas, such as drug discovery and testing synthetic materials. Although it is still heavily used in fundamental chemistry, the trend has shifted over to the biological side, where label-free and buffer independent values are relatively harder to achieve.
